HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance
Course Outline
This is a nationally recognised qualification that provides the knowledge and skills to provide assistance to health professional staff to deliver care for patients. This qualification equips workers with a range of factual, technical and procedural knowledge to provide assistance to health professional staff for the care of clients. Health services assistants normally work under supervision of Health professionals. Health Services Assistants work under supervision and direction of Health Care professionals in a broad range of healthcare settings including but not limited to medical, surgical, mental health, paediatrics, orthopaedics, rehabilitation, oncology, operating theatres, rural and remote, emergency, ambulatory care and community health care settings.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
Entry Requirements
- There are no academic prerequisites for the HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance. But you need to have reasonable English Language, Literacy and Numeracy to successfully complete the course (LLN). In addition, a Police Clearance Certificate, Working with Children Check (WWC) and a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check(Disability Stream) is mandatory prior to your work placement. You must also undertake a Federal Police Check (AFP) or NSW Police check (no less than 3 years old).
- Prospective students also have be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident or on a humanitarian visa and must be 15 Years or older and must live or work in NSW. Target Students
Students aspiring career as an AINs (Assistance in Nursing) in Hospitals and who wants to pursue further studies in
Nursing at a Diploma or Bachelor’s level.
After successful completion of courses, NTA’s Graduates may find roles in Hospital or other Acute care settings in a
wide range of roles.

Course Duration
The course duration is 26 weeks.
The weekly class schedule is as follows:
- Classroom learning, practice and assessment
- Self study in your own time.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must complete at least 120 hours of work Placement in an Acute or
related services as detailed in the Assessment requirements of the Unit of Competency (UoC).

Course Delivery
- Face to Face: Theoritical content and group discussions delivered in an interactive classroom setting
- Simulation Training: Hands on practical skills developed in a controlled environment, ensuring NTA's students are confident in real world care delivery situations
- Self paced learning: provides NTA's students the flexibility they need to complete the theoritical components and assessments at their own pace, however within the assigned timeframes.
- Work placements: Provides NTA's students exposure to Aged Care and Disability settings, with focus on practical application of theoritical knowledge developed throughout the course in professional care settings.
Course Assessment
As this is a nationally recognised qualification, students will be required to successfully complete all units to
meet the requirements. Each unit contains assessments which include:
- Assessment method 1: Knowledge based tests
- Assessment method 2: Projects and Case studies
- Assessment method 3: Practical demonstration in a simulated environment.
- Assessment method 4: Demonstration of clinical skills in workplace environment, assessed by NTA's facilitator
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers
Prospective students may have developed a number of skills in community care, through previous employment, life experience and/or formal studies. If this is the case, they are encouraged to enquire about Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) which may shorten their course. For example, Students holding a current First Aid Certificate from a recognised RTO, can receive credit towards for the Provide First Aid Unit.

Educational Pathways
After achieving the Certificate III in Health Services Assistance, students may receive credits for units towards Certificate IV qualifications of Allied Health or Diploma in Nursing.
