Introduction to NSW subsidised Training Program Smart and Skilled

NTA is an approved provider to deliver Smart and Skilled government subsidised training. Smart and Skilled is a New South Wales (NSW) government program that helps people get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers by providing subsidised training. The New South Wales Government offers various types of subsidies for training under the Smart and skilled Program. Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Smart and skilled program prospective students need to meet the following requirements: To be eligible for Smart and Skilled, you must meet the following requirements:

Target students are either current pursuing or want to pursue a career in a wide variety of care setting such as Nursing Homes, Residential Care Facilities, Disability Care Facilities, Rehabilitation Services, Retirement Villages, Community Healthcare Services or Hospitals.
NTA's Graduates normally seek employment in the following roles:

  • Assistant in Nursing (AIN)
  • Care assistant/worker/Personal care worker
  • Respite Care worker
  • Community care worker/House worker/Support worker
  • Home care assistant
  • Disability service worker
HLT33115 Certificate III in Health Services Assistance 26 120

Students aspiring career as an AINs (Assistance in Nursing) in Hospitals and who wants to pursue further studies in Nursing at a Diploma or Bachelor’s level. After successful completion of courses, NTA's Graduates may find roles in Hospital or other Acute care settings in a wide range of roles.
Graduates may seek employment in the following jobs:

  • Patient Care assistant
  • Ward Support
  • Nursing support worker
  • Operation theatre assistant
  • Nursing Assistant
  • Patient service assistant
  • Ward assistant Orderly/Assistant

CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support 28 120

Target students want to pursue a career in a facility such as Aged Care Facilities, Nursing Home, Hostel, Residential Care Facility, Retirement Village, Community Health Care Centre and other Ageing support related services.
NTA's Graduates will be equipped to seek employment in the following roles:

  • Personal Care Worker
  • Care Supervisor
  • Hostel Supervisor
  • Accomadation Support worker
  • Day Activity Worker
  • Care Team leader
  • Residential Care Leader

Target students want to pursue a career in a facility such as a Disability Homes, Nursing Home, Hostel, Residential Care Facility, Community Health Care Centre and other Disability related services.
NTA's Graduates will be equipped to seek employment in the following roles:

  • Disability support worker/coordinator
  • Behavioural Support Officer
  • Disability team leader/Supervisor
  • Day Activity Worker
  • Personal Care Assistant
  • Program coordinator – social programs
  • Residential Care Officer
CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health 26 120

Target students want to pursue a career in a facility such as a respite care, residential services, rehabilitation programs, clinical settings, home based outreach programs or supporting people in employment.
NTA's Graduates will be equipped to seek employment in the following roles:

  • Mental Health Support Worker
  • Community Support Worker
  • Mental Health Outreach Worker
CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health 26 120

Prospective students pursuing or aspiring a career in in design, implementation and evaluation of leisure, health activities and programs for clients in facilities such as a Nursing Home, Hostel, Residential Care Facility, Disability Facility, and Community Health Care Centre. Graduates may seek employment in the following jobs:

  • Activities officer
  • Community leisure officer
  • Disability team leader/Supervisor
  • Disability officer(day support)
  • Diversional therapy assistant
  • Leisure officer
  • Recreation activities officer
CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services 104 200

Target students want to pursue a career in a case management role in a community setting. NTA's Graduates will be equipped to seek employment in the following roles:
Community services worker

  • Program coordinator
  • Early intervention worker
  • Youth officer
  • Group facilitator
  • Welfare worker
  • Case coordinator

Fee Free Training

These courses are fully subsidised by the NSW Government. You may be eligible if you fall under one of these categories:

  • Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • People living with Disability
  • Asylum seekers (and partners of)
  • Apprentiship and Traineeship (currently unavailable)
Free Free Scholarships

Fee Free Scholarships are available for:

  • Young people who are eligible for a concession fee
  • Young people who are or have been in out-of-home care
  • People who are experiencing or have experienced domestic and family violence and their dependents. Refer to this link for further information
Concession Fees

Smart and skilled concession fees may be available if you receive Centrelink Benefits. The list of eligible benefits include but is not limited to JobSeeker Payment, Disability Support Pension, Age Pension, Austudy, Parenting Payment (Single), Carer Payment, Family Tax Benefit Part A (maximum rate), Farm Household Allowance, Special Benefit, Veterans' Affairs Payments Veterans' Children Education Scheme, Widow Allowance, Youth Allowance.
