CHC62015– Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management [Domestic]
Course Outline
This AQF Level 6 qualification is suitable for students who wish to work as middle managers or managers across a board range of Organisations focussing on Community Services. The prospective students undertaking this course often form part of a management team, report to the Leadership team and/or Board of Directors.
On completion of this qualification, prospective students will apply a broad range of Management and Community Services skills to achieve the strategic objectives and/or goals of Community Services Organisations. Workers at this level will either work independently or will have management and supervision responsibilities for a team of people
At this level, workers will be responsible for a broad range of duties such as planning and monitoring service delivery, recruitment and performance management of other paid or unpaid workers, managing risk and contributing to continuous improvement within the scope of their specific role. This may include management of a specific programs or project, or broader management of a community-based organisation, early childhood education service, not-for-profit organisation or community centre.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.
Entry Requirements
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or above.
- A minimum of Diploma (AQF Level 5) qualification in Community Services/Care focussed areas such as Community Services, Social work, Counselling, Childcare, Mental Health and other related areas and/or
- Significant work experience in a Community Services or care focussed related role
- Reasonable Literacy and Numeracy skills to successfully complete the qualification
Target Students
Target students are either current pursuing or want to pursue a career in management/middle management in a community services focussed Organisation. Prospective students may pursue a number of roles after successfully completing the qualification
- Community Services Management Roles (Community Services Manager, Community Centre Manager, Program or Service Coordinator, Case Management Coordinator, Welfare Centre Manager)
- Aged Care and Disability Sector Leadership (Aged Care Facility Manager, Disability Services Manager, Residential Services Coordinator, Client Services Manager)
- Health and Welfare Administration (Health and Welfare Services Manager, Practice Manager (Community Health Setting), Allied Health Program Manager)
- Not-for-Profit and NGO Leadership (Program Manager (Non-Government Organisation), Volunteer Program Coordinator, Community Development Officer (Senior Level))
- Youth, Family, and Social Support Management (Youth Services Manager, Family Support Program Manager, Outreach Services Coordinator)
- Specialist and Advisory Roles (Quality and Compliance Manager (Community Sector), Risk and Governance Officer, Policy or Advocacy Officer (Community/Health))in a wide variety of care setting such as Nursing Homes, Residential Care Facilities, Disability Care Facilities, Rehabilitation Services, Retirement Villages, Community Healthcare Services or Hospitals.
Course Duration
The course duration is 78 weeks (minimum)
The weekly class schedule is as follows:
- Online learning, Simulation, practice and assessment
- Self study in your own time.
- Completion of Workplace Project work
Course Location

Course Delivery
- Online: Theoretical content and group discussions delivered online. This will be organised during evenings/weekends to support students who are employed.
- Simulation Training: Hands on practical skills developed in a controlled environment, ensuring NTA's students are confident in real world care delivery situations. This will be delivered at NTA's Campus or at the Employers site depending on the arrangement. Students will need to attend a minimum of 8 hours per month and will be organised on a weekend to support students who are generally employed during weekends.
- Self paced learning: provides NTA's students the flexibility they need to complete the theoretical components and assessments at their own pace, however within the assigned timeframes.
- Workplace Project work: Provides NTA's students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills to a real-world scenario. This can be either be undertaken in Organisations that the student is already working. NTA may support identification and referral of suitable Organisations to undertake the Project, however t is the responsibility of the student to identify Organisation where the project work needs to be undertaken.
Course Assessment
As this is a nationally recognised qualification, students will be required to successfully complete all units to meet the requirements. Each unit contains assessments which include:
- Assessment method 1: Knowledge based tests
- Assessment method 2: Projects and Case studies
- Assessment method 3: Practical demonstration in a simulated environment.
- Assessment method 4: Project work
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfers
Prospective students may have developed a number of skills in management of community services, through previous employment, life experience and/or formal studies. If this is the case, they are encouraged to enquire about Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) which may shorten their course. For example, Students holding a current First Aid Certificate from a recognised RTO, can receive credit towards for the Provide First Aid Unit.

Educational Pathways
After achieving the qualification you have a number of pathway options. Some of them include:
- Bachelors Degree in Community Services or related area
- Graduate Diploma in Community services or related area
- Advanced Diploma in other Community Services related areas
Course Fees
NTA will decide the course fees based on the credit transfer and Unit of Competency required to achieve the qualification. Fees are payable by Cheque, Money order, Cash, Internet, Bank Deposit or Direct Debit. NTA may enter into payment plans depending on student needs on a case by case basis.
